Movement

moveRules in javascript

Each unit has a movement allowance number printed on it which represents the number of hexes it may move during the movement phase.

General Movement Rules

A unit may never exceed its movement allowance. Each unit may move as far as its movement allowance permits. Units may move less than their movement allowance. Units are never forced to move during their movement phase. Units may not lend or accumulate unused movement points.

Terrain Movement Costs

Units must spend movement points to traverse some terrain types. These costs are specified in the Terrain Effects Chart. A hexagon containing more than one type of terrain is entered at the higher of the two costs or a combination of all the terrain costs.

Special Rules for Roads

When a unit enters a road hexagon through a road hexside, it pays only the cost for moving along the road, regardless of the type of terrain entered. However, a road has absolutely no effect on movement if the hex is entered through a nonroad hexside.

Enemy units

Usually, units may never enter or pass through a hexagon containing an enemy unit. Some wargames allow for a unit to move into an enemy's hexagon for a close assault or overrun attack.

Stacking

Stacking rules determine the number of units that can occupy a single hexagon. This limit can be the number of units, or a count of the combat strengths. Most wargames state that a unit must follow the stacking rules when it ends it's movement phase. Otherwise, units may move through hexagons containing friendly units.

Zone of Control

A unit must stop upon entering a hexagon adjacent to an enemy unit if there is a Zone of Control rule. Whenever a unit enters a hexagon that is adjacent to any of the enemy player's units, the moving unit must immediately stop. The six hexagons adjacent to an enemy unit are called the Zone of Control of that unit. Some wargames state that a unit cannot move is it begins its movement phase in a Zone of Control.

Exiting the Map

Units may or may not leave the map. Some wargames obtain victory points when units leave the map. Some wargames require the unit to be eliminated if it is forced to exit the map. Some wargames do not allow an units to exit the map.
